Explicit and implicit bias exist in our society, and often as interpreters we are unaware of the impact it has on our work. Implicit bias, the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner, can influence our perceptions and interactions without the interpreter being aware of it. Oftentimes than not our privilege influences our impact which conflicts with the intent. This workshop will explore bias. Participants will experience a privilege walk and be exposed to examples of biases that happen every day and discuss and explore ways to safely unpack and address biases.
